The concern of today’s youth is the same for previous generations. They may appreciate HEARING ABOUT God. But they want to SEE AND EXPERIENCE the realities of a life of faith. They want to know the Christian faith experientially and not just theoretically.
Adults may have the same desire. In talking and listening in our coffee hour last week, I was reminded of something. Namely, when we give verbal testimony to how God has intersected our lives, it encourages others. A statement of God’s movement in our lives gives credence and “feet” to our faith.
Our Old Testament passage for last Sunday was about Jabob’s dream of a ladder connecting heaven to earth. It was the perfect Sunday for us to relate how God has connected to our lives. Perhaps it was a “coincidence” that really was a divine appointment. Or maybe there was something you were able to overcome in God’s power. Or your word might one of God’s sustaining power thru difficulty or over the long haul.
A few of us shared how God has been real in our lives. Our testimony may encourage others. The ladder of Jacob’s dream is not just a theoretical posit. No, the ladder was a sign to Jacob, and to us, that God is interested in making a heaven-to-earth connection. Through the centuries, God’s people have let it be known that God is real and an integral part of their lives, in real and tangible ways. Let us join this great cloud of witnesses on Sunday, and proclaim how it is that God has met us experientially, and how the ladder that connects heaven to earth is real.
