I watched a video recently of Chinese Christians.* They are a persecuted lot, often having to find obscure places to meet. The video shows the emotion as they receive their first Bibles. They are seen kissing the Bibles, weeping, and full of joy. Similarly, after the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt, the Word of the Lord was read “from morning to midday” (Nehemiah 8:3). And it says “the people were attentive.” Could you imagine attentively hearing God’s word for five or six hours? (That’s hours not minutes!)
Hugging Bibles and weeping upon receiving them. Listening to God’s Word for five hours, without interruption. What could lead to such a desperate desire for the God's Word?
It is good to be reminded of our brothers and sisters, now and then, who devoted themselves to search the Scriptures. What would it take for us to wake up in the morning and very eagerly hunger to read God’s Word? May our "Bible-appetite" increase!
"One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” — Matthew 4:4
